Elon Musk, the founder of American electric car maker Tesla, is on track to become the world's first trillionaire, while the total wealth of the world's record 3,428 billionaires has reached $2.01 trillion, the highest in history.
According to the Forbes World Billionaires list, Elon Musk's wealth has increased to $839 billion, up more than $500 billion in the past year, driven by Tesla and SpaceX's rising valuations. Elon Musk is the first person in the world to have a net worth exceeding $800 billion and is close to becoming the world's first trillionaire.
According to the Forbes list, rapidly increasing investment in artificial intelligence, unstable financial markets, and supportive monetary policies have boosted wealth, leading to about 400 new entries on the list compared to last year.
The report said that, as a result of the increase in the number of billionaires, wealth rose by $4 trillion year-on-year to a record $20.1 trillion. It was further reported that 20 people have now become owners of wealth of at least $100 billion, reflecting the trend of rising assets among the world's richest people.
Elon Musk is at number one on the Forbes list for the second consecutive year and his wealth is continuously increasing at a record rate. The second richest person in the world is Google co-founder Larry Page, whose wealth is estimated at $257 billion, followed by Google co-founder Sergey Brin in third place with $237 billion.
Amazon's Jeff Bezos is worth $224 billion, while Meta's chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is worth $222 billion, ranking fourth and fifth, respectively. Nationally, the richest people live in the United States, where 989 people are billionaires, and 15 of the top 20 are also Americans.
China has 610 billionaires, including Hong Kong, followed by India, with 229 billionaires. According to the report, US President Donald Trump's wealth has increased by 27 percent, largely due to the end of cryptocurrency and fraud cases, and he is ranked 645th in the world with a wealth of $6.5 billion.
Many celebrities from showbiz, sports, and other fields have also joined the ranks of the world's richest people. Famous singer Beyoncé and former tennis star Roger Federer are also part of the list.
