Trump threatens Iranian team's life if they come to play in FIFA World Cup

Washington (Web News) US President Donald Trump has advised the Iranian national football team to stay away from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying that this decision may be better for their own lives and safety.

This statement comes at a time when tensions are rising between Iran and the United States. The FIFA World Cup will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19 this year. The Iranian team qualified for the World Cup for the fourth consecutive time by finishing first in Group A in the Asian qualifying stage, but due to the political situation that has arisen in recent days, Iran’s participation has become uncertain.

The head of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, said that participation in the World Cup seems difficult under the current circumstances. Similarly, Iran’s Sports Minister said in a TV interview that it was no longer possible for the team to participate in the tournament after the recent attacks and tensions.

On the other hand, FIFA President Gianni Infantino had earlier said that he had been assured by the US president that the Iranian team would be welcomed to the tournament, because football is a means of connecting the world.
